George Mattfeld

LIFE SKILLS COACH

George grew up in a small town in upstate New York and is the youngest of six children.  Growing up he was an athlete and avid outdoorsman.  His love for the outdoors pushed him to pursue a wilderness recreation and outdoor leadership degree in Saranac Lake, NY.

In 2009 after countless failed attempts George made the decision to put down drugs and alcohol. Something about this time was different, he wanted to change and was willing to take suggestions. One of these suggestions was to help another addict or alcoholic. He quickly found that he had a passion for helping others. This led him to pursue a career in recovery and to devote himself to helping others who struggle with substance abuse and mental health.

His introduction to the field was at a reputable sober living in Asheville, NC. Early on, he realized the importance of providing quality care to not only the program's clients but also supporting their parents and loved ones. For the past 10 years, George has worked hand in hand with clients and their families to help set goals, set boundaries, manage expectations, obtain employment, navigate the judicial system, enroll in college, graduate high school, or get a GED and most importantly learn to have fun again!

“I have found nothing to be more rewarding than seeing that moment when the light bulb goes on and hope is restored.”
